The South Downs National Park was established in 2009 to protect the weald and downland landscapes within East Sussex, Hampshire, West Sussex, and is managed by the South Downs National Park Authority. The policies affecting a potential development site in the South Downs are found in the adopted Local Plan, the National Planning Policy Framework, and, if relevant, the neighbourhood plan.
